I Think Soul XVIII MINIJAZZ

https://ithinksoul.bandcamp.com/

We are a bunch of musicians (Sara, Mikel, Marta, Iñaki, and Xabi) with a common idea: dancing & grooving with Soul, Funky and Disco music. The band itself emerged in 2010, but it was not until 2015 that we decided to record our 8 own themes... so, "I Think Soul", our self-produced album, named with the band name, came out in early 2016. Hope you enjoy it! ;).

PORTILLA DE IBDA. Castillo de Portilla / Zabalateko Monumento multzoa

https://youtu.be/jHAenUjBeyM

01.) "WHEN SHE COMES" 2015 HITnRUN Phase Two.
When She Comes is a song performed live on 11 May 2011. It was long assumed a studio version was recorded around that same time, but this was unconfirmed until 2015 when it appeared on Hitnrun Phase Two.

02.) "WHAT IT FEELS LIKE" ft Andy Allo 2014 Art Official Age.
What It Feels Like is the eighth track on Prince's 37th album Art Official Age. Almost 15 months before its release, however, the track was streamed during a DJ set by Dudley D. on 11 July 2013 (am), during 3rdEye TV broadcast # 16. The track is a duet between Prince and Andy Allo.

Initial tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely the track was recorded between Summer 2011 and early 2012 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA, during recording sessions for Andy Allo's second album Superconductor.

The track's lyrics make reference to the Biblical figures David and Saul. Although the phrase "this is what it feels like" is used repeatedly in When Stars Collide, which did end up on Superconductor, the tracks are otherwise unrelated.

03.) "WHITECAPS" 2014 Plectrumelectrum.
Whitecaps is the fifth track on Prince's 36th album Plectrumelectrum (the first by Prince and 3rdEyeGirl), and was released four weeks earlier as a pre-order download, hours after the track was debuted by Vibe.com. It was also available to purchase separately (on the same day U Know was released to promote Art Official Age).

The track features lead vocals by Hannah Ford.

While specific recording dates are not known, it is likely the track was recorded in 2013 or early 2014, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. It was first mentioned in an interview with Mojo Magazine released in February 2014.

04.) "FUTURE SOUL SONG" 2010 20TEN.
Future Soul Song is the third track from Prince's 35th album 20TEN.

Initial tracking dates are uncertain, but it is believed that the track was recorded in early 2010 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

05.) "HERE" 2009 MPLSound.
Here is the fifth track on Prince's 34th studio album MPLSound.

Recording dates and studio are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in 2008 - early 2009 at either Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA or 77 Beverly Park, Hollywood, CA, USA.

06.) "LOVE LIKE JAZZ" 2009 Lotusflow3r.
Love Like Jazz is the seventh track on Prince's 33rd studio album Lotusflow3r.

Recording dates and studio are unknown. Prince has stated that some tracks on the Lotusflow3r date back to 3121 recording sessions - as this song features Michael B. and Sonny T., it is possible that this track comes from their late 2005 recording session, or one of the subsequent sessions, but no information has been verified.

07.) "FUTURE BABY MAMA" 2007 Planet Earth.
Future Baby Mama is the fifth track from Prince's 32nd album Planet Earth, and, in late 2007, Future Baby Mama was available as a promo single in the France only as the album's third worldwide single (but the first and only in France). On 10 February 2008, the track won the Grammy Award for "Best Male R&B Vocal Performance" (beating Woman by Raheem DeVaughn, B.U.D.D.Y. by Musiq Soulchild, Because Of You by Ne-Yo and Please Don't Go by Tank).

While specific recording dates are not known, it is likely that initial tracking took place in 2006 or early 2007, most likely at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (although possibly at either 3121 at The Rio Las Vegas, NV, USA or Circle House Miami, FL, USA).

08.) "BEAUTIFUL, LOVED AND BLESSED" 2006 3121.
Beautiful, Loved And Blessed (a.k.a. Beautiful, Loved & Blessed) is the tenth track on Prince's 31st studio album 3121, and, one month before the album's release, a version with a slightly different ending was included as the b-side of Black Sweat, the album's first single. Beautiful, Loved & Blessed was also released as a promo single in the USA (credited to Támar feat. Prince) at around the same time.

Exact recording dates are unknown, but it was likely recorded at some point between early 2005 (when Prince first worked with Támar Davis) and early 2006. It is the only track to receive the artist credit "Prince feat. Támar Davis", although they worked on several tracks together in 2005 and 2006, at either Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA, or 3121 (Mulholland), West Hollywood, CA, USA (it was not included on a late 2005 configuration of 3121, but this may be because it was intended for Támar's use rather than Prince's). At the time of 3121's release, the Black Sweat single version of Beautiful, Loved And Blessed (as Beautiful, Loved & Blessed) was also included on Támar's first album, then titled Beautiful, Loved & Blessed; it was included as the seventh track when the album was later renamed Milk & Honey, with a reprise of the song included as the twelfth and final track on the album.

09.) "DEAR MR. MAN" 2004 Musicology.
Dear Mr. Man is the eleventh track on Prince's 28th album Musicology. Six months after the album's release, the European version of the Cinnamon Girl single contained a live version of the track in both audio and video form. The studio version, with overdubs by Dr. Cornel West and titled Mr. Man, was included as the fourth track on Cornel West & BMWMB's 2007 album Never Forget: A Journey Of Revelations.

Initial recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in 2003 or early 2004 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

10.) "WHAT DO U WANT ME 2 DO?" 2004 Musicology.
What Do U Want Me 2 Do? is the seventh track on Prince's 28th studio album Musicology, but four and a half months before the album's release, the track was streamed in the NPG Music Club' Glam Slam VIP room when it was announced that the seven-CD set The Chocolate Invasion was put on hold indefinitely.

Initial recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that the song was recorded in 2003 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

11.) "PEARLS B4 THE SWINE" 2002 One Nite Alone...
Pearls B4 The Swine is the eighth track on Prince's 25th album One Nite Alone..., but eight months before the album's release, the track was included in NPG Ahdio Show 8, a special show posted in response to the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks in the USA.

Specific recording dates are unknown, but it is believed that initial tracking took place in Spring 2001 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (along with the rest of the One Nite Alone... album), during the mastering of The Rainbow Children album. It is possible that the track was recorded in mid-September 2001, following the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, but this is unverified.

The title is a Biblical reference, taken from Matthew 7:6.

12.) "SHE LOVES ME 4 ME" 2001 The Rainbow Children.
She Loves Me 4 Me is the eleventh track on Prince's 24th album The Rainbow Children, his first album after reverting to the name Prince, and, in late 2001, She Loves Me 4 Me was available as a promotional single (as well as a four-track "Jazz Sampler"), in addition to a free download through www.rainbowchildren.com on 10 December 2001.

Specific recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that initial tracking took place in late 2000 or early 2001 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

13.) "EVERYWHERE" 2001 The Rainbow Children.
Everywhere is the fifth track on Prince's 24th album The Rainbow Children, his first album after reverting to the name Prince.

Specific recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that initial tracking took place in late 2000 or early 2001 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. The track is based around a drum pattern created by John Blackwell when Prince was out of the studio. When John Blackwell returned to the studio the following day he discovered that Prince had created an entire track using the pattern. Horn overdubs were recorded on 8 February 2001, also at Paisley Park Studios (on the same day as horn overdubs on Mellow and The Everlasting Now).

14.) "MUSE 2 THE PHARAOH" 2001 The Rainbow Children.
Muse 2 The Pharaoh is the second track on Prince's 24th album The Rainbow Children, his first album after reverting to the name Prince. In 2002 a live version from the One Nite Alone... Tour was released as the second track on the One Nite Alone... Live! album (along with Mellow, The Other Side Of The Pillow and Strange Relationship from the same show).

Specific recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that initial tracking took place in late 2000 or early 2001 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

One lyric from the song has caused some controversy. In discussing slavery, Prince states "Holocaust aside, many lived and died", and goes on to ask "but when all truth is told, would you rather be dead, or be sold?" Another unrelated lyric has caused some confusion, when Prince states "the opposite of NATO is OTAN." While OTAN is the French acronym for NATO, it's unclear if Prince is referring to this or something else. In live shows (including on the One Nite Alone... Live! album), he changes the lyric to "the opposite of NATO is monotheism". The lyric "Like a thief in the night, my Lord come and strike" is a reference to the Biblical New Testament passage 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4, the earliest of the apostle Paul's letters to the early Christian churches.

15.) "WHEREVER U GO, WHATEVER U DO" 1999 Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do is the 16th track (14th song) on Prince's 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name O(+> ). It is the last credited track on the album, containing 5:35 of silence following the end of the song (leading into an uncredited segue). The same version, without the silence, was included as the 13th track on the 2001 companion album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic (Prettyman followed it as the uncredited final track, however).

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking likely took place in early 1999 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

16.) "SILLY GAME" 1999 Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
Silly Game is the 14th track (twelfth song) on Prince's 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name O(+> ). In 2001, it was included as the twelfth track on the companion album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking likely took place in early 1999 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. String overdubs by the NPG Orchestra (orchestrated by Clare Fischer), were recorded in mid-1999 at O'Henry Sound Studios, Burbank, CA, USA.

17.) "MAN 'O' WAR" 1999 Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
Man'O'War (often referred to as Man O' War) is the eleventh track (ninth song) on Prince's 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name O(+> ), and, a few months after the album's release, Man'O'War was available as a promotional release in the USA only. In 2001, a remixed version titled Man'O'War (Remix), which was in fact mostly re-recorded, was included as the eighth track on the companion album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking likely took place in early 1999 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. The Hornheadz recorded horn overdubs for the track on 17 May 1999 at Paisley Park Studios (during the same session as horn overdubs for Y Should Eye Do That When Eye Can Do This?, Hot Wit U, I Ain't Gonna Run and R U Ready?). String overdubs by the NPG Orchestra (orchestrated by Clare Fischer), were recorded in mid-1999 at O'Henry Sound Studios, Burbank, CA, USA. The remix was likely recorded in late 1999, also at Paisley Park Studios.

The Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic version is preceded by a segue which contains the opening orchestration of the song.

An edit of the remix was also included as the first track on the Man'O'War (Remix) NPG Records Sampler unreleased cassette (intended for promotional use only).

18.) "THE SUN, THE MOON AND STARS" 1999 Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
The Sun, The Moon And Stars is the eighth track (seventh song) on Prince's 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name O(+> ). An almost identical version, including an extra few seconds of ocean sounds at the fade-out, was included as the seventh track on the 2001 companion album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.

The Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic version was likely the full recording, edited slightly for its initial release on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

19.) "TANGERINE" extended 2001 Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.
Tangerine is the sixth track (fifth song) on Prince's 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (his sixth using the name O(+> ). An extended version (not labeled as such) was included as the fifth track on the 2001 companion album Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic.

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking likely took place in early 1999 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. The Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic version was likely the full recording, edited for its initial release on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

20.) "OLD FRIENDS 4 SALE" 1999 The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale.
Old Friends 4 Sale is the eighth track on Prince's 22nd album The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale.

Initial tracking took place on 20 April 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (three days after Wendy's Parade, New Position, I Wonder U and Under The Cherry Moon, on the same day as Others Here With Us and Tibet, and the day before Life Can Be So Nice and Sometimes It Snows In April).

Clare Fischer arranged and recorded orchestration for the song at some point in mid-late 1985 at Monterey Sound Studios, Glendale, CA, USA. The lyrics of this original version mention several personal details of changes in Prince's band and his relationships with bandmembers and staff.

The song (without orchestration) was included as the eighth track on a 1 May 1985 configuration of Parade (and would therefore have been credited to Prince and the Revolution), but was removed before the album's release.

The track was reworked with less personal lyrics in 1991, most likely at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (the original 1985 orchestration was reused, however). It is this later version that was included on The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale.

On 24 September 2012, in anticipation of the "Welcome 2 Chicago" three-date residency, a 3:18 rehearsal version of Old Friends 4 Sale by Prince and the New Power Generation was streamed on DrFunkenberry blog, using the 1991 lyrics, with a minor change to the main subject of the song being female; this may have been in reference to Sheila E., who had tweeted vague references to a fallout with Prince a week earlier. The same day as the rehearsal's stream, Prince performed the song live for the first time, more than 27 years after its initial recording (the performance immediately followed a performance of The Glamorous Life, furthering the theory about the revised lyrics referring to Sheila E.).

21.) "5 WOMEN" 1999 The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale.
5 Women was initially available (as Five Women) as the ninth track on Joe Cocker's album Night Calls, and in 1992, Five Women was released as a single in Europe. In 1999, Prince's original version was released as the fourth track on Prince's 22nd album The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale, and at around the time of the album's release, 5 Women was available as a promotional single (with no commercial release).

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking for Prince's version were recorded in late August or early September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studio, Tokyo, Japan, while in Tokyo for two dates on the Diamonds And Pearls Tour (during the same set of sessions the produced Willing And Able, Strollin', Money Don't Matter 2 Night and Something Funky (This House Comes)). The track was sent to Joe Cocker for consideration in 1991, and Cocker re-recorded it with his band in 1991 at A&M Studios, Los Angeles, CA, USA. Cocker asked Prince to play guitar on this version, but Prince was busy at the time, and told Cocker that it was now "his baby".
